Project 2025 aims to reduce federal spending and increase state and private sector control over healthcare. The proposed changes carry significant risks, particularly to the 20% of US residents who live in rural counties.
The reduction in federal support for Medicaid, the rollback of ACA provisions, deregulation of private insurance, cuts to preventive services, and reduced funding for rural healthcare and public health programs all threaten to diminish healthcare coverage for millions of Americans.
We share evidence-based information that lists the already-existing challenges of delivering healthcare in rural areas, which will be significantly increased with the implementation of Project 2025. Red States will suffer more than Blue States, due to a) lower household incomes, and b) a greater predominance of rural areas.
