Clinical trials of the Mediterranean Diet show important health benefits – both physically and mentally.
The Mediterranean Diet emphasizes vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds, fish, some chicken, and olive oil – all foods readily available in the Mediterranean region.
Dr. Jordi Salas Salvado, MD has been the Principal Investigator of the PREDIMED and PREDIMED PLUS trials researching the health benefits of this diet over time. The studies are recognized around the world as the model for nutritional research on the Mediterranean diet.
Results show a decrease in heart disease, heart attacks, hardening of the aorta in the heart, reduction and reversal of diabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity. They also show improved cognition, better memory, and less depression.
The results have huge implications for improved health via diet and exercise. Dr. Salas Salvado explains all in this in-depth interview.
